Making Beats
Making Beats is a four-part electronic music production course designed specifically for the middle and high school music classroom. Built in collaboration with Roland Corporation, this program teaches students to create, arrange, remix, and perform their own music using real-world tools.
Through beatmaking, sound design, and arrangement, students develop the skills of a modern music creator. Each session is scaffolded for success, with curriculum alignment, classroom flexibility, and student creativity at its core.
Explore the modules below and bring beat-driven learning into your classroom.

Making Beats Sessions
Session 1

Groove Foundations
Start with the beat. Build core rhythm skills using step sequencing and real-world tools.

Session 1
Groove Foundations
Students dive into beat-making using hardware like the Roland T-8 or software-based tools (provided). They explore subdivisions, tempo, swing, and meter, learning how and why grooves are categorized into hip-hop or house music. Backing tracks, beat-grids and MIDI templates help all students create immediately—no instrumental ability required.
Session 2

Genre Vibes
Explore what makes electronic music genres unique—and how to shape your own.

Session 2
Genre Vibes
Students investigate the rhythmic DNA of styles like trap, house, lo-fi, and reggaeton. Students reverse-engineer patterns, analyse stylistic techniques, and then create beats that reflect these grooves. This session builds critical listening and production fluency while sparking creative reinvention.
Session 3

Signature Sound
Design your own sonic identity using filters, synths, and creative FX.
