Platform Privacy Policy – MusicEDU

MusicEDU Pty Ltd (“MusicEDU”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of all users of our online platform and services, including schools, teachers, students, and parents.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal data in accordance with global privacy regulations across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the United States.
By using our services, you agree to the practices outlined in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services or provide personal information.
1. Who this Policy Applies to:
- Users: Teachers, school administrators, and students with a login to the MusicEDU Suite platform.
- Visitors: Anyone browsing www.musicedu.com.au or related pages.
- Parents/Guardians: Adults overseeing a student’s use of MusicEDU in school.
2. Our Commitment to Student Privacy
MusicEDU is built for schools and education providers. We strictly limit what data is collected, particularly for minors. Student accounts are created by authorised school personnel, not directly by students.
We comply with:

- New Zealand: Privacy Act 2020
- UK: UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
- EU: General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

- COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act)
- FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
- CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act), where applicable
3. Student Safety & COPPA Compliance (US)
- MusicEDU does not permit children to create accounts.
- Teachers or school administrators set up student access.
- We do not collect personal contact details from students.
- If we learn a student account was created in violation of this, we will deactivate the account and notify the school.
Parents or guardians can request to review or delete their child’s data via the school or by contacting us at privacy@musicedu.com.au
4. FERPA Compliance (US)
Schools using The MusicEDU Suite remain the owners of student records. We operate as a “school official” under FERPA, with legitimate educational interest. We do not disclose education records to third parties unless permitted by FERPA or authorised by the school.
Parents and eligible students can:
- Request access to education records
- Request corrections
- File complaints through their school or directly with the U.S. Department of Education:

5. What Information We Collect
a) Information You or Your School Provides
- Full name, email address, school name and role
- Login credentials
- Support queries, messages, and billing info
b) Student-Linked Data
- Alias or pseudonym (real names optional)
- Class association, learning progress, results
c) Automatically Collected Data (Metadata)
- IP address, browser, device type
- Login history, session activity, platform usage
- Site interaction (e.g., button clicks, page views)
We use cookies and analytics to improve performance, never for profiling or advertising to students.
6. Why We Collect Data
We collect data to:
- Provide our services to schools and users
- Manage school accounts and technical support
- Track learning progress and reporting
- Improve our curriculum and platform
- Meet legal and safety obligations
We do not sell personal information or use it for profiling, student marketing, or advertising.
7. How We Share Information
All vendors are contractually bound to safeguard personal data under relevant privacy frameworks (e.g., GDPR SCCs, Australian APPs).
8. International Data Sharing
MusicEDU may transfer or store data in:
- Australia (primary data location)
- Europe (Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Germany) via it's storage, software and platform partners
- USA (with safeguards) via it's storage, software and platform partners
We use standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms to ensure data is protected when transferred internationally.
9. California Residents (CCPA)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), residents of California have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and why
- Request access to specific data collected
- Request deletion of their data (with some exceptions)
- Opt out of any data selling (we do not sell personal data)
